City of God Synopsis:

The streets of the world’s most notorious slum, Rio de Janeiro’s City of God, are a place where combat photographers fear to tread, police rarely go and residents are lucky if they live to the age of 20. In the midst of the oppressive crime and violence, a young boy will grow up to discover that he can view the harsh realities of his surroundings with an artistic eye. In the face of impossible odds, his brave ambition to become a professional photographer becomes a window into his world and ultimately his way out.

Hailed as one of the best foreign films of all-time, City of God is the movie you show to your subtitle hating friends and family members if you want to sway them to embrace foreign cinema.  It’s the film you show your fellow movie-lovers if you want to blow their mind.  Yes, it’s that good and it’s the reason why FAMP Art exists to begin with.  Be sure to tell your friends and help introduce people to this amazing film.  We hope to see you there!

FAMP Art is Alive! ‘City of God’ by Dan Norris to be the Company’s Debut Print

Yesterday was a great day for FAMP Art as Germaine over at Slashfilm.com unveiled our first prints and introduced our company to the world.  I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t both extremely excited and nervous at the same time and so I’d like to thank Germaine and everyone else that has followed us via various social media platforms and have shared the print around the net, it’s been so cool to see it spread.  Personally this has been a long journey but I’m super proud and am very happy with the way things are shaping up.  Our first set of prints for City of God by UK artist Dan Norris came out better than I could have ever expected and, to top it all off, the director of the film Fernando Meirelles loves the set and wants the pair to hang up.  We hope you guys love it as much as we do.

You can check out the pieces below along with some more information on the release.  Be sure to check back here in a week or two for some close-up shots of the prints, which we have in-hand, as well as for info on how we plan to separate ourselves from the pack and shake things up in this glorious little industry.

Below is the full press release for the launch and first print drop.

Based in New York, FAMP Art is a company that specializes in creating officially licensed, limited edition screen printed posters of foreign films, pre-1980s classics and a few random goodies here and there of things we simply love.

A business years in the making, FAMP Art was founded to bridge the gap between pop culture art and art-house cinema, focusing on films that don’t get much love in the art world but are praised in the world of cinema (and that we ourselves are passionate about). Our goal is to fuse two different worlds through the glory of awesome and beautiful art prints.

To celebrate the launch of the business and the completion of the world cup in Brazil earlier this summer, FAMP Art will be releasing its debut prints for one of the finest foreign films ever made, the Oscar© nominated City of God. The art was designed by Dan Norris, a UK-based artist known for his gritty and minimalist takes on popular films, a perfect candidate to tackle Fernando Meirelles’ striking piece of cinema.

Two prints of the film, both of which measure 18”x24” and were printed by Seizure Palace, will be made available through the FAMP Art website on September 3rd at a random time. The regular version (Yellow) will have a run 177 and will cost $40. The Brazilian color variant (green) will have a run of 77 and cost $50. There will be a limit of one per person per household. Be sure to follow FAMP Art on Twitter, Facebook or sign up for the newsletter by registering on our site to find out exactly when the prints go on sale.
